Maura Delpero's Olmi-esque bittersweet
mountain wartime drama Vermiglio lost out to Emilia Perez in the
best foreign film category at the Golden Globes Sunday.
Emilia Pérez, a Spanish-language French musical crime comedy
film written and directed by Jacques Audiar, is also favourite
to beat Vermiglio at this year's Oscars.
Depero's elegiac film, set in a remote northern Italian mountain
village in 1944, shows how the arrival of an army deserter, into
the family of the local teacher, and his love for the teacher's
eldest daughter, changes the course of everyone's life.
Vermiglio won second prize at last year's Venice Film Festival.
