Italy's new ITA Airways took the
skies for the first time on Friday with new blue planes sporting
white wings and the logo of its previous and bigger incarnation,
Alitalia, on the tail.
CEO Fabio Lazzerini said ITA had bought the logo for 90 million
euros.
The first flight, from Mila Linate to Bari, touched down at
07:35.
A protest by over 400 Alitalia workers who have been picketing
Fiumicino Airport for 47 days continued.
Lazzerini told a press conference ITA was starting up with 52
planes and would raise that number to 76 next year.
Chairman Alfredo Altavilla said ITA "is not being born to remain
alone forever".
He confirmed a break-even target of 2023.
