Venice's ancient government complex,
the Procuratie Vecchie (Old Procuracies) in St Mark's Square,
has opened to the public for the first time in 500 years.
The iconic building that runs from the Torre dell'Orologio to
the Museo Correr has been opened by its owner, insurance giant
Assicurazioni Generali, which has funded a restoration of the
12,400 square metres of the three-storey complex.
The project, led by English architect David Chipperfield, took
five years to complete.
The Procuratie will now become the home of the Human Safety Net
foundation, devoted to inclusion, innovation and sustainability.
