The Italian tourism sector will take
a 3.9 billion euro hit from higher prices this summer, a
Demoskopika survey said Friday.
Higher prices are hitting tourism hard, it said.
The increase in inflation in the sector - calculated to be more
than 3 percentage points higher than the general ISTAT index -
would generate increases of some 3.9 billion euros in tourist
spending by Italians and foreigners who have chosen to spend
their summer holidays in Italian resorts.
A number of items would have the greatest impact, with air
transport (+23.5%), package holidays (+17.7%) and accommodation
(+12.8%) leading the way in terms of year-on-year inflation in
June 2023 compared to the same month in 2022.
