Rimini's latest craze, barefoot
bikini dancing in beach bars, has split the city council in the
Romagna resort from lifeguards and discotheques which are
demanding authorities clamp down on it.
The dancing craze, in the bars and eateries known as
chiringuitos, is backed by by former deputy mayor Gloria Lisi
who has urged the council to formally approve what is already de
facto happening.
But tourism councillor Juri Magrini has turned her down saying
"the beach can't become a disco, there are norms forbidding it".
Mayor Jamil Sadegholvaad has come out in favour of allowing
people to dance in their bathing costumes, but insisted "there
must be rules".
Lifeguards and discos are also demanding "more rules and
controls", associations said.
