The Italian Embassy in Sofia continued with the events celebrating 145 years of diplomatic relations between Italy and Bulgaria with an evening of bel canto, dedicated to Italian opera. An exciting concert was held on 14 June in the prestigious Bulgaria Hall, dedicated to one of the most illustrious musicians of all time, Giacomo Puccini, on the centenary of his death.
The evening was also an opportunity to thank all the countries supporting Unesco's candidature of Italian opera as an Intangible Heritage of Humanity. The stars of the evening were Bulgarian soprano Milla Mihova and Italian pianist Giulio Zappa, who performed famous opera arias from masterpieces by Bellini, Rossini, Donizetti and Verdi.
After graduating from the Academy Prof. Pantcho Vladigerov in Sofia, Milla Mihova was a member of the opera studio of the renowned Accademia Nazionale Santa Cecilia in Rome. In 2019, she received the Raina Kabaivanska Fund Scholarship at the New Bulgarian University and the Boris Christoff Foundation. Today he performs various roles on the most prestigious stages in Europe.
Giulio Zappa, on the other hand, began his training as a repertory accompanist pianist in Milan and then specialised in vocal chamber music. Since 1996, he has been performing intensively in concerts all over the world, as well as frequently serving as 'vocal coach' (maestro collaboratore) in numerous theatres and festivals in Europe and Asia.
