The Italian Ambassador to Kenya, Roberto Natali, inaugurated the first edition of the 'Italy Meets Kenya, wine food & more' event organised by the Nairobi office of the Italian Trade Agency (Ita) in the conference centre of the Trademark Hotel in the Kenyan capital.
The two-day event showcased 24 Italian companies from the food and wine and services sectors related to catering and hospitality, as well as importers of Made in Italy in Kenya. "After the African leg of the Gambero Rosso international tour and the annual appointment of the Italian Cuisine Week in the world, this is another opportunity to promote at the same time our cultural tradition and some of our country's products of excellence," said the ambassador.
Wineries, producers of dairy products, cured meats, pasta and condiments, as well as accessories, presented their products to sector operators not only from Kenya, but from many other Sub-Saharan African countries. During the event, which opened with an exhaustive tasting of Italian wines and food and finely prepared dishes by chef Luca Mastromattei, three wine masterclasses were held by wine expert Patricia Toth and Kenyan sommelier Victoria Mulu-Munywoki.
"Parallel to the exhibition, we thought of proposing an in-depth exploration on the knowledge of Italian wines, entitled 'The great viticultural mosaic called Italy', not only a guided tasting but a real virtual journey into the winemaking of our regions, whose participation turned out to be a success," explained I Nairobi's director, Giuseppe Manenti.
