Yesterday evening, the Italian Ambassador to Serbia, Luca Gori, hosted the presentation event of the new intermodal corridor between Italy and Serbia 'Ausava' at the Residence. The conference, entitled 'The Italy-Serbia intermodal corridors: networks and services supporting businesses', was organised in cooperation with the Italian logistics company Alpe Adria SpA. "Ausava" connects Cervignano del Friuli and Belgrade and will contribute to the strengthening of trade between Italy and Serbia, also involving the port of Trieste. On the occasion of the presentation of the initiative, a cooperation MoU was signed between Alpe Adria SpA and the interport of Batajnica (in the northern area of Belgrade), the new terminal built in the Serbian capital to facilitate the transport of goods on intermodal transport units.
The Ambassador opened the event by reading the message of greeting sent by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, which was followed by the speech of the Minister of Economy, Adriana Mesarovic, and the Councillor for Infrastructure of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Cristina Amirante. The Minister of Infrastructure, Goran Vesic, was also present.
During the evening, Dr. Antonio Gurrieri, CEO of Alpe Adria, illustrated the 'Ausava' intermodal corridor project. This was followed by analyses on the strategic importance of this infrastructure for the Balkans by Alessandro Panaro, Head of the Maritime and Energy Department, SRM (Intesa Sanpaolo Group), and Marco Di Liddo, Director of CeSI - Centre for International Studies.
"The Italy - Serbia intermodal corridor is a project of extraordinary relevance for the further strengthening of economic relations between Italy and Serbia. It is an initiative born from the Belgrade Business Forum in March 2023 and continued after the Economic Forum hosted in Trieste last May,' said Ambassador Gori. "This corridor," he continued, "will enable the development of faster, more efficient and greener modes of transport, in support of the environment and our businesses.
