The deputy head of mission of the Italian Embassy in Slovakia, Elisa Polsinelli, took part in the presentation ceremony of the MHz - Tomoscopy project in Bratislava on 4 September. The project is funded through Horizon Europe, the European Union's framework programme for research and innovation, and aims to create the first ever multi-projection X-ray tomoscopy device with a sampling rate capable of observing rapid phenomena in 3D, which will be available at the European XFEL in Hamburg.
The project, whose leader is Dr. Patrik Vagovic of CFEL/DESY in Hamburg, involves collaboration between research institutions based in several countries, including Italy (whose partner institutions are the University of Ferrara and the National Institute of Nuclear Physics - INFN) and Slovakia (whose partner institution is the Pavol Jozef Safarik University of Kosice), as well as Germany, the UK and Japan.
On the Italian side," reads a note from the embassy, "the event was attended by Dr. Antonio Bonucci, Head of Industrial Liaison Office and In kind contribution of the European XFEL research infrastructure, involved in the industrial exploitation of the innovative system and part of the institute's team of experts and researchers from over 40 countries. Italy is one of the 12 countries contributing as a shareholder to the operation and development of the European XFEL.
During the event, the numerous opportunities arising from the deployment of the new device were presented, both in the scientific field (especially for advanced studies in the field of materials science and biology) and in industrial sectors with the highest technological content (such as the aerospace industry, energy storage and industrial processes for 2D materials, e.g. graphene), where it will enable the development of extremely innovative and cutting-edge applications.
