Peru's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Peter Camino, and Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Maria Tripodi, today chaired the fourth meeting of the Political Consultation Mechanism. The meeting takes place in the context of the important celebration of 150 years of diplomatic relations, reflecting the strong commitment of both countries to strengthen and energise bilateral relations.
The authorities resumed high-level political dialogue and agreed to significantly strengthen economic, trade, socio-cultural and cooperation ties between the two countries. In addition, they agreed on concrete actions for the proper integration of Peruvian and Italian communities residing in the host states, as well as the strengthening of cooperation in the fight against illicit drug trafficking and organised crime, and collaboration in the recovery of cultural assets.
Both delegations also agreed on the identification of priority areas for investment and the strengthening of economic and trade ties. They also assured that they will continue to develop cooperation schemes, such as triangular cooperation, to foster rural economic development, promote food security and support the humanitarian demining plan. Italy reiterated its support for Peru's membership of the OECD.
In the regional and multilateral spheres, convergences were identified on dealing with ongoing international challenges and overcoming these crises with absolute respect for democratic values, international law and active multilateralism.
The vice ministers proposed that the next meeting of the mechanism be held in Italy in 2025, in order to further deepen bilateral relations.
