The eighth edition of the Almirante Brown International Book Fair opened today. For the first time, Italy is present with a stand of the Consular Agency in Lomas de Zamora. In addition to exhibiting books, the Italian space will distribute promotional material on consular activities and the Italea project related to Tourism of the Roots.
The Consular Agency's participation is part of the Foreign Ministry's initiatives for the dissemination of Italian culture and is part of the activities of the 24th edition of the Settimana della Lingua Italiana nel Mondo, which will take place from 14 to 20 October. The Fair will remain open until Sunday 6 October. On Saturday 5, at 7pm, it will host a conference on 'Italian-Argentine women writers: tales of family and immigration' with the participation of writers Adriana De Caria, Natalia Brandi and María Florencia Ratto, organised in collaboration with the Com.It.Es. of Lomas de Zamora.
Consular Agent Massimo Palozzi spoke at the ribbon-cutting ceremony together with the Deputy Minister of Culture and Education of the Province of Buenos Aires Alberto Sileoni, the Mayor of Almirante Brown Mariano Cascallares, the President of the Argentine Writers' Society Alejandro Vaccaro, and the Ambassador of Ireland to Argentina. 'It is a great honour to represent our country in such an important event,' commented Palozzi. 'The Almirante Brown International Book Fair attracts tens of thousands of visitors every year and is the ideal showcase to promote our literature in the year dedicated to our Italian roots. This is a systemic effort that, in addition to the Embassy and the Consulate General in Buenos Aires, involves other actors such as Com.It.Es. and Fedital, to whom I extend my heartfelt thanks'.
