Ferrari, Intesa Sanpaolo, Leonardo, Piaggio, Valentino, Ferrero, Ita, Coin, Mcs & Cisalpina, Moleskine, Manifatture Sigaro Toscano (Mst), Palazzo Fiuggi, Forte Village, Boffi: these are some of the companies featured today at the Italian Embassy in Washinton in the third edition of Italian Design Week, a platform created by entrepreneur Roberta Marcenaro Lyon (Imark) to connect Italian companies and their shareholders or their US branches with the aim of doing strategic business by showcasing the ingenuity of 'Made in Italy' brands. Participants interacted with industry leaders during a summit entitled 'Shaping the Future through Authentic Collaboration' in the presence of visionary speakers such as Flavio Manzoni, chief design officer of Ferrari, who addressed the theme 'High Speed Horizons: Pioneering the Innovations of Tomorrow', or Roberto Coin, founder of the eponymous company, who explored the transformation of dreams. Or, again, Michelin-starred chef Heinz Beck, who shared suggestions on the theme of longevity and wellness to design a healthy future. The design of objects and cities, roads and mobility, tourism, sustainability, investment between the USA and Italy, and the future of education were discussed. On 4 October, Heinz Beck will instead curate a unique dining experience at the iconic Willard Hotel in Washington, near the White House. For the occasion, two special editions of Ferraris will be on display for guests walking the red carpet.
In collaboration with the United Nations organisation, the launch of a brand new innovation hub in Tuscany, at Villa Petriolo, which will open in November 2024, will also be announced during the event. The aim of the hub is to address pressing global sustainability issues through collaborative innovation. Imark, a strategic positioning agency for Italian companies in the US, will dedicate a portion of the event's proceeds to the McLean Project for the Arts, in support of emerging and established artists in the Mid-Atlantic region. This year's awardees (with works by renowned designer-architect Paola Navone) include Flavio Manzoni (Ferrari), Roberto Coin, Elisa Zambito Marsala (Intesa San Paolo), Heinz Beck (Palazzo Fiuggi) and Stefano Mariotti (Mst).
