The 24th Italian Language Week in the World began today in Vilnius, organised by the Faculty of Philology of Vilnius University in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Lithuania and the Italian Cultural Institute of the Baltic capital.
Opening the week's events was the Italian Ambassador to Vilnius, Emanuele de Maigret, who emphasised the importance of the centuries-old cultural ties between Italy and Lithuania and emphasised how culture represents a fundamental vehicle of unity between the two countries even in the present day.
The opening event of the week, for which a packed programme of public lectures, concerts and meetings with guests from various Italian universities is planned, had as its special guest Geog Gaenswein, apostolic nuncio for the Baltic countries and former secretary to Benedict XVI, who spoke about his relationship with the Italian language and spoke at length with the audience.
