With the theme 'Italian and the book: the world between the lines', Professor Federica Chessa, Maeci lecturer at the University of Cape Town (Uct), South Africa, gave her students the opportunity to investigate the link between language and literature in today's context, highlighting the fundamental role of the book as a tool for transmitting Italian cultural heritage, values and identity. Today, on the occasion of the Italian Language Week in the world, the first and second year students analysed short extracts from Italian writers who described various Italian cities in their works. The written words and the atmosphere evoked led the students on a journey through cities, landscapes, and cultures, reflecting the variety and richness of our country. To complete the journey through Italy, the analysed literary texts were accompanied by images and music that help bring the authors' words to life and create a multi-sensory experience for the listeners. Among the presentations were Sardinia, with Grazia Deledda's text "Canne al vento"; then a trip to Pompei with a text by Curzio Malaparte, "Pompei"; an episode was made in Milan with Moravia's "Gli indifferenti", then Pisa with Italo Svevo's "La coscienza di Zeno", and finally Palermo with Tomasi di Lampedusa's "Il Gattopardo".
Present at the event were the Italian Consul in Cape Town Giulio Mignacca and Ambassador Romina Vecchi.
