The ambassador of Italy in Sofia, Giuseppina Zarra, went to Pleven, a city of great historical and economic importance in northern Bulgaria, for an institutional visit, accompanied by the honorary consul of Italy in Plovdiv, Giuseppe De Francesco, and the president of Confindustria Bulgaria, Roberto Santorelli.
The delegation - the embassy reported in a note - was welcomed by the mayor of Pleven, Valentin Hristov. The meeting took stock of the Italian entrepreneurial presence in the region, analysing the territory's potential for Italian investments and the opportunities for growth in the economic, cultural, and tourist sectors, as well as in the city infrastructure.
The visit continued with a visit to the Metecno Bulgaria company, the result of a major Italian investment, which has been operating in Pleven since 2007, employing 80 local workers in the production of insulated panels for roofing and facades for industrial and residential use.
During the day, the ambassador met a delegation from the lively community of around 700 Italian students enrolled at the University of Medicine of Pleven, whose members shared their perspectives and ambitions gained during their study experience in Bulgaria and their general satisfaction with the study environment and welcome.
The day ended with celebrations organised by the Rector of the University of Medicine, Prof. Dobromir Dimitrov, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the University, in the presence of numerous authorities, representatives of the diplomatic corps and other Bulgarian universities.
