From 16 to 22 November 2024 the Embassy of Italy in Bulgaria in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Sofia and the ITA Agency in Sofia, Confindustria Bulgaria and the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria celebrates the IX Week of Italian Cuisine in the World, promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The Week of Italian Cuisine in the World is the annual thematic review dedicated to the promotion of Italian cuisine and quality food products, promoted by our network of Embassies, Consulates, Italian Cultural Institutes and ITA Agencies abroad.
This year's event revolves around the theme: 'Mediterranean Diet and Roots Cuisine: Health and Tradition' and aims to present Italian cuisine with particular reference to its traditional roots and the acknowledged role of the Mediterranean Diet in protecting health, as part of a healthy, balanced and sustainable lifestyle:
On 18 November at the Hilton Hotel in Sofia will take place "ITALIA GRAND TOUR DiVINO" - an event celebrating Italian wine, which has always been an inseparable companion of Italian Cuisine, a perfect combination for the exaltation of flavours. During the event there will be the opportunity to taste more than 70 Italian wines and an in-depth presentation on Metodo Franciacorta held by Master Sommelier Fabiana Bottan. This will be followed at the Floret restaurant of the Hotel InterContinental Sofia by a dinner organised by the Young Entrepreneurs Group of Confindustria Bulgaria and ITA Airways. The "Volare all'Italiana" event aims to promote typical Italian cuisine in Bulgaria and to present the national airline ITA Airways in the country, with Italian guests from the airline company attending in addition to Bulgarian partners and Confindustria Bulgaria members.
On 19 November, again at the Hilton Hotel in Sofia, the Conference 'Rice paddies yesterday, today and tomorrow' will be organised, on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo's death, with the collaboration of the Academy of Italian Cuisine and the State Professional Institute for Food and Wine and Hospitality "Pietro Piazza" (IPSSEOA) in Palermo.
The conference will also feature a photographic exhibition with the same title 'La risaia ieri, oggi e domani' (Rice paddies yesterday, today and tomorrow), which recounts the evolution of the Italian rice sector through images that bear witness to a perfect marriage between tradition and innovation.
On 20 November, the traditional Gala Evening at the Residence hosted by Ambassador Giuseppina Zarra will be held, prepared by a renowned Italian chef, Daniele Priori, bearer of the best Italian food and wine traditions, which will focus this year on the flavours and products of southern Italy.
On 21 November, Chef Priori will then be the protagonist of a charity event dedicated to Italian cuisine at the Bulgarian foundation for the integration of young people with disabilities into the world of work, Maria's World Foundation. In the evening there will be a dinner organised by the Italian Academy of Cuisine in collaboration with the Ente Nazionale Risi, the IIC and the ITA Agency with a menu prepared by chefs Mario Puccio and Giuseppe Pellico inspired by Sicilian and Apulian culinary traditions, with the help of students from the IPSSEOA Institute in Palermo.
On 22 and 23 November, the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria is organising, in cooperation with the Lazio Region Arsial Agency, a series of themed meetings "Lazio for food in Bulgaria", between Italian agri-food sector operators and potential Bulgarian consumers and distributors.
In addition, for the entire week a corner dedicated to SCIM will be set up at the Liceo Italiano NUKK in collaboration with the ITA Agency and IPSSEOA of Palermo on the theme of the Mediterranean Diet.
