On the occasion of Oman's celebration of the ninth edition of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World, the Italian Embassy in Mascate organised an interactive seminar at the Sultan Qaboos University in collaboration with Ice and held by the Iulm University of Milan.
On the theme 'The taste of the mind: where science and cooking meet', the seminar highlighted the connection between neuroscience and food perception, with practical demonstrations of how brain impulses influence food preferences. In front of an audience of Omani students and academics, representatives of the Italian community and Omani institutions and civil society, the event emphasised the link between Italian culinary traditions and a healthy and sustainable lifestyle, in line with the Italian Cuisine Week theme chosen for 2024: 'Mediterranean Diet and Roots Cuisine: Health and Tradition'.
"This annual celebration is a tribute to Italy's gastronomic heritage and a testimony to the universal appeal of the Mediterranean Diet as a lifestyle choice and symbol of Italian culture," Ambassador Pierluigi D'Elia stressed.
The seminar was held in the presence and under the patronage of His Royal Highness Sayyida Dr. Basma Al Said. During the week dedicated to Italian cuisine in Oman, some of the best restaurants in Mascate will offer special menus in line with the theme of this ninth edition. Other events on the agenda include a live cooking demonstration at one of the largest shopping malls in the capital Mascate, held by Chef Mimmo De Gregorio of the restaurant 'Lo Stuzzichino' in Massa Lubrense (Naples) on the 'ristoranti del buon ricordo' circuit.
