The Embassy of Italy in Brazil is organising the fifth edition of 'Vini D'Italia - Salão do Vinho Italiano no Brasil,' an event that aims to promote the excellence of Italian wine and strengthen enogastronomic and commercial ties between Italy and Brazil. This year's meeting will be held under the guidance of Ambassador Alessandro Cortese, and organised by wine critic Sueli Maestri, the event's creator. The initiative, which has been part of the Brasilia calendar since 2018, will this year take place on 21 November.
The event is part of the IX Edition of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and represents an important initiative to bring the excellence of Italian oenology directly to the target audience, stimulating the promotion and marketing of Italian wine in Brazil, a market with enormous potential for this consumption.
In this regard, it is worth highlighting that, between January and October 2024, imports of Italian wines grew by 9.1% compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 7.9 million litres and increasing the market share of Brazilian wine held by Italy 6.3%. In the same period, imports of Italian sparkling wines reached 796.2 thousand litres (+12.4%), with the Italian share rising to 14.9%. The 2024 edition of Vini D'Italia further consolidates Brasilia as the capital of Italian wine, positioning the event in the circuit of the country's main wine fairs and promising record participation of importers and labels.
With the presence of 24 importers, the event will present a variety of 235 labels from all Italian wine regions. This diversity allows the public to explore the best of Italian production, from iconic wines to the discoveries of small wineries. For the first time Vini D'Italia will see the special participation of the Italian winery Antonelli Montefalco, which will come to Brazil especially to present its wines. Founded in 1883 and located in the heart of the Umbria region, with 430 hectares, the winery is known for its authentic grapes, such as Sagrantino, Spoletino and Sangiovese. This year's highlight is the Montefalco Riserva DOC 2020 wine, awarded the coveted Tre Bicchieri seal by Gambero Rosso, establishing itself as the winery's best wine. The 2024 edition also celebrates the theme 'Wine in Brazil through 150 Years of Italian Immigration', highlighting the fundamental contribution of Italian immigrants to the introduction of wine culture and the development and professionalisation of the Brazilian wine market, which today has 1,100 active wineries . The Exhibition of Italian Wine in Brazil stands out as a reference not only for experts in the sector, but also for all wine lovers. With impeccable curatorship and the presence of big names, the 2024 edition offers participants a complete experience, combining tradition, culture and innovation.
