From 16 to 22 November, authentic Italian cuisine will be celebrated in North Macedonia with a rich programme of events dedicated to genuine Italian flavours, wellness and gastronomic tradition.
The Italian Cuisine Week starts with a special promotion of Italian food products and wines in Tinex supermarkets (Zebra and Tinex Delicatessen), organised by ICE, which will enable consumers to learn more about authentic Italian products as part of Italian culture and culinary tradition.
The Mediterranean Diet - an intangible cultural heritage of humanity recognised by UNESCO and an undisputed synonym of healthy lifestyle and wellbeing - will be the protagonist of three events organised by the Italian Embassy in Skopje that will take place in the Macedonian capital on Wednesday 20 November as part of the 9th Week of Italian Cuisine in the World.
In the morning, starting at 10 a.m., the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of North Macedonia will host a seminar entitled "FILIERA CORTA. Mediterranean diet: traditional plant-based cuisine with high antioxidant capacity and potential health benefits', which will be held by Prof. Paola Valdinoci, a well-known nutritionist and scientific advisor on nutrition to the Italian Ministry of Agriculture. The expert's talk will illustrate the basic concepts behind this Mediterranean dietary model that make it one of the most effective for preventing disease and maintaining health, thanks to the balance and variety of its foods, which are able to provide all the nutrients needed for a healthy life. The characteristics of the key ingredients of the Mediterranean Diet such as fruit and vegetables, whole grains, olive oil, fish and spices will also be analysed. The seminar will be dedicated to food professionals, but also to the general public.
On the same day at 1.30 p.m. at the Department of Chemical Sciences of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Natural Sciences in Skopje, Prof. Valdinoci will give a lecture on 'Phytonutrients in the Mediterranean diet as a valuable aid against inflammation for a better life expectancy', which will focus on the preventive qualities of this dietary regime that counteracts the risk of the onset of major diseases.
In the evening at 8.30 pm, thanks to the collaboration with Confindustria Macedonia del Nord, an event dedicated to the flavours of Italian tradition will be presented, with a tasting dinner that will bring to the table the best of Made in Italy. The menu will be created by the chefs of the 'Da Gino' restaurant in cooperation with Casa Rinaldi, the general sponsor of the evening, and with the contribution of Consorzio Parmigiano Reggiano, Bottega del Vino, Birra Moretti and Caffè Borbone.
Those who miss the opportunity to attend the gastronomic evening will still have the chance to taste the special Italian menus that the 'Da Gino' restaurant will continue to offer until the end of the month in honour of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World.
On 21 November at 5.30 p.m. at the Tinex Zebra wine shop, wine enthusiasts will be able to taste some of the best Italian wines available at the shop, accompanied by typical Italian appetisers.
