From 18 to 25 November, the Embassy of Italy in Stockholm, together with the Italian Cultural Institute, Ice, the Chamber of Commerce and the Italian Academy of Cuisine, is organising 'The Week of Italian Cuisine in the World', with the aim of promoting and enhancing the culture and food and wine production of our country.
"This is the first time the initiative has been extended to a series of restaurants," said the Italian Ambassador to Stockholm, Michele Pala, who also emphasised the importance of involving 22 restaurants throughout Sweden. "The idea was to make this week accessible not only to invited guests and a recurring audience, but also to a wider public.
This year's edition revolves around the theme 'Mediterranean Diet and Roots Cuisine: Health and Tradition'. "We also want to emphasise how important a balanced Mediterranean Diet is for health. This of course on the one hand helps our export of our original products and on the other propagates what for us is a true culture, because for Italy being at the table, dealing with the right ingredients, of the territory, of tradition, have a meaning that goes beyond just nourishment, it is really a cultural element'.
There will then be a regional focus on Sardinia with 'Visioni sarde', a review of Sardinian short films set in Sardinia at the institute, followed by a tasting of typical Sardinian dishes and wines.
Also at the institute, the event 'At the roots of ice cream' will see Alessandro Cesari propose an ice cream made using 0 km ingredients. This will be followed by 'The Mediterranean diet and sport', a conversation in the Technogym showroom between football champion Albin Ekdahl, who played in Italy for many years, and sports journalist Siavoush Fallahi on the importance of the role of the Mediterranean diet for sportsmen and women, followed by a reception with Italian products.
It will then be the turn of Confartigianato in cooperation with Ice, which will organise a tasting of typical Italian products at 'La piadineria'. Furthermore, as part of the 'Le Radici della Cucina Italiana' project, a cooking course will be organised with Eataly.
The Chamber of Commerce will organise the 'Days of Italian Food and Wine in Sweden' at the historic 'Grand Hotel' in Stockholm, where a tasting of Italian wines will be held, followed by the awarding of the 'Marchio Ospitalità Italiana 2025' to selected Italian restaurants and pizzerias. The Chamber of Commerce will again organise with I Vini del Piemonte the Masterclass 'A journey through the greatness of Nebbiolo: exploring Langhe & Roero and their appellations'. The last event on the programme - 'Italian Cheese Day' - will be the one organised by Ostrummet Sabis, where producers from different Italian regions will be present to explain production techniques and tell the ancient secrets and intrinsic properties that make these cheeses unique in the world. The week will also be enlivened by the collaboration with Italienpodden, a podcast dedicated to Italy, which will produce three episodes on Italian food and wine culture: 'Mediterranean diet; olive oil; Italian cheeses'.
