Within the framework of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World, a tasting of Italian varietal wines was held last night in Skopje at the Tinex Zebra Drink Room, organised by Tinex in cooperation with @ITA - Italian Trade Agency - Skopje, Department for Economic Cooperation at the US Embassy, Embassy of Italy in Skopje.
The visitors - reported the Italian Embassy in a note - had the opportunity to try some of the most sophisticated Italian red wines from St. Michael Eppan available at the Tinex Drink Room in Zebra, along with typical Italian products such as cheese, prosciutto and bruschetta. Tinex has the well-known St. Michael Eppan and Uggiano wine brands in its product range with 20 different wines.
On this occasion, the Italian Ambassador, Andrea Silvestri, emphasised that 'wine is one of the most important Made in Italy products. Italy is one of the largest wine producers in the world and the world's leading exporter. Italy boasts more than 400 wines with protected designations of origin, including 73 DOCGs, and 118 wines with typical geographical indications,' he said.
The most famous Italian wine regions are: Barolo, Chianti, Collio Friulano, Conegliano - Valdobiaddene, Franciacorta, Langhe - Roero, Monferrato, Montefalco, Sicily, Trentino -Alto Adige, Valpolicella, Valtellina.
Moreover, wine is an important part of the definition of the Mediterranean diet according to UNESCO, with particular symbolic and cultural importance for the communities that consume it. Red wine, rich in polyphenols, helps improve the lipid profile, increasing good cholesterol (HDL) and reducing bad cholesterol (LDL). As part of the Mediterranean lifestyle, it can prove to be - it was mentioned - a valuable ally for cardiovascular health.
