The Director of the Customs and Monopolies Agency (Adm), Roberto Alesse, on a mission to Serbia, met with Ambassador Luca Gori at the Italian Embassy in Belgrade, with whom he agreed on the need to finalise two important memoranda of understanding between the Adm and the Serbian Customs, one of which will see the fundamental participation of the Guardia di Finanza.
These agreements will be part of the already fruitful cooperation between the two Administrations in customs matters, in which the Italian Agency has long been involved in Serbia in three projects aimed at aligning Serbian Customs with European standards, speeding up trade and making controls more efficient.
The visit to the Embassy was also an opportunity for Alesse to meet the Italian System, which has been enriched over the past year by the presence in Belgrade of SACE, Simest and Cdp, and many authoritative representatives of the Italian economic community in Serbia, which numbers over 1200 companies. During the meeting, which was also attended by representatives of ICE, Confindustria Serbia, and the Italian-Serbian Chamber of Commerce, Alesse insisted on the benefits of the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) status certification, issued to reliable operators and a key tool to facilitate virtuous companies in carrying out customs procedures.
"Italian entrepreneurs who have decided to invest in Serbia not only contribute to the growth of their companies, but are an active part of a virtuous process that generates stable employment and technological innovation in this country. In order to compete in the international context, characterised by complex and constantly changing challenges, it is decisive that the entrepreneurial fabric shares the need and importance of working alongside Customs, which are an essential tool to support legality and economic prosperity in all free and strong states," said Director Alesse during the workshop.
"Customs cooperation is a fundamental pillar of the economic relations between Rome and Belgrade, also in light of the high level of trade, amounting to approximately EUR 4.5 billion, that exists between the two countries. The mission of the WMD in Belgrade gives new impetus to this dialogue, aimed at simplifying and accelerating the process of import and export of goods, digitalising processes, and strengthening the fight against smuggling," said Ambassador Gori.
