At the end of a busy programme of activities organised by the Italian Embassy in agreement with the Italian Cultural Institute in Santiago, the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World came to an end in Chile.
'The love and affection surrounding Italian gastronomy, considered a world excellence, is really strong in Chile. Maintaining this closeness and nurturing the cultural exchange between the communities of Chile and Italy is fundamental for us, and initiatives like this one are essential to further enrich this important bond,' said Ambassador Valeria Biagiotti.
At the centre of the initiatives was the urban event held in the heart of Barrio Italia, Providencia's historic district, where over 70,000 participants were able to attend events, musical performances and cooking workshops, taste products and learn more about organic waste management and sustainability.
Scim's various activities also included a seminar on the benefits of the Mediterranean Diet in terms of health, psychological well-being and sustainability at the School of Medicine of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Added to this were two masterclasses on Italian cuisine held during the week by chef Niccolò Giacometti, and events organised by the Verace Pizza Napoletana Association.
The programme was also enriched by the initiatives organised at the Italian Cultural Institute of Santiago, such as the projection of the film 'Focaccia Blues' and the exhibition '120 photographs for 120 years', dedicated to the emblematic Italian community of Capitán Pastene, a town in Araucanía where around 80 families from the Modena Apennines settled in the early 20th century.
