The event coordinated by the Italian Embassy in Paraguay to promote pilgrim flows to Italy during the Holy Year 2025 was held today at the Apostolic Nunciature in Asunción.
Tourism Minister Angie Duarte, the Archbishop of Asunción, Cardinal Adalberto Martinez, as well as - at the express request of Ambassador Fondi - Andrea Taddei, ITA Airways director for Latin America, based in Sao Paulo, Brazil, took part in the initiative. The contact person of the Opera Romana Pellegrinaggi Monsignor Giovanni Biallo also participated in the meeting via a connection from Rome.
During the meeting, the Apostolic Nuncio Vincenzo Turturro briefly illustrated the calendar of events that will take place during the Holy Year, informing that he had involved the Episcopal Conference of Paraguay in mobilising the numerous Paraguayan pilgrims who will be travelling to Italy for the Jubilee.
"For my part," explained Ambassador Fondi, "I took the opportunity to enhance the role of ITA Airways in relation to the new business opportunities that the Jubilee represents in terms of increased commercial traffic along the Asunción-San Paolo-Rome route (as an alternative to the Asunción-Madrid-Rome route, which is operated here by Air Europa under total monopoly conditions). Dr. Taddei confirmed that, also in light of the designation of ITA Airways as the official carrier of the Jubilee 2025, it will be his responsibility to prepare the technical and logistical arrangements necessary to activate the route to Rome, which, in the section between Asunción and São Paulo, will be able to count on the Gol and Latam airlines as partners of ITA Airways".
The media were also present at the event, while an operational meeting with travel agencies is scheduled for tomorrow.
