After the tragic death, a few days ago, of Enrique Esnal, former vice-president of the Dante Alighieri Society of Mexico City, the Italian Embassy in the Latin American country sent a message of condolence to the members of the Board of Directors of the institution.
"The Italian Embassy in Mexico - reads the text - joins the Dante in expressing the most sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Esnal Dubernard, with solidarity in this time of sorrow".
"In the Italian community - continues the text - will always remain the memory of Enrique Esnal Dubernard, former vice-president of Dante Alighieri, awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in the rank of Commendatore, as a promoter of our language and culture", concludes the message.
Fabio Caselli, president of the Dante of Mexico City, also remembered Esnal in a statement:
"I met my dear friend Enrique about nine years ago," the text reads, "when I had the honour of joining the society's Board of Directors. He had a long family and personal history with the institution: the auditorium, for example, bears the name of his uncle, Aldo Cecchetti'.
'His love for this symbol of Italy,' the message continues, 'which has been present in Mexico for over 120 years, and his constant commitment leave an indelible mark on the heart of our cultural community. He was a gentleman, Enrique, in the noble sense of the word: cultured, elegant and of ethical principles that denoted an ancient, admirable intelligence. Over the decades of his membership of the Society, he played a crucial role in promoting and spreading the values of Italian culture around the world, strengthening international ties and carrying forward traditions and missions with passion and dedication'.
"His vision, always oriented towards the enhancement of Italian language and culture, has contributed to the growth and renewal of our cultural initiatives. His deep attachment to the Dante was manifested, over the decades, not only in his effective administrative action, but also in the daily commitment with which he supported every activity, building bridges and fostering interculturality".
"Thank you, Enrique. On behalf of the entire Board, we are grateful for your tireless work and love for our institution. Your teaching and example of life will continue to shine through our initiatives. The Dante Alighieri Society remembers you with affection and esteem, aware that your contribution will always remain an integral part of our history,' Caselli concluded.
