The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Edmondo Cirielli, informs a note from the Farnesina, paid a working visit to Turkmenistan, during which he held bilateral political consultations with Rashid Meredov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, and with Ahmet Gurbanov, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs responsible for political affairs, and also met with Tangryguly Atahalliyev, Deputy Prime Minister and responsible for agriculture, the environment and water resources.
    During the meetings, the excellent state of bilateral relations between Italy and Turkmenistan was confirmed and the strategic importance for Italy of relations with the Central Asian states was reaffirmed. Also discussed were the deepening of economic-commercial, energy, defence, environmental, connectivity and cultural relations, as well as the main geopolitical and international issues and relations with neighbouring Iran and Afghanistan.
    As part of the visit, Deputy Minister Cirielli also had the opportunity to meet the Italian business community present in Ashgabat, to visit the Italian archaeological mission in 'Nisa Parthica', and to speak to Italian-speaking students at the three main Turkmen universities, as well as at the 'Ish Nokady' research and training centre.
