Ambassador Luca Sabbatucci, Permanent Representative of Italy to the International Organisations in Paris, today conferred the honour of Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic on the Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, Fatih Birol, at a ceremony held at the Hotel de Galliffet in Paris.
"The prestigious award, conferred by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, is the result of Director Birol's work at the helm of the world's most authoritative energy body, which has become a point of reference for the world's leading economies on the entire range of energy technologies, including electricity grids, renewable energies and critical minerals," reads a note released by the Italian diplomacy.
Motivating the honour, the note continues, "is the collaboration with Italy, which has its roots in time, but which has experienced a clear qualitative leap during the Italian G7 Presidency". In his speech during the ceremony, Sabbatucci stressed precisely 'the extraordinary contribution that the IEA has made to the Italian G7 Presidency. Fatih Birol devoted deep and sincere attention to the objectives pursued by Italy, with particular reference to the partnership with African countries, also in the context of the Mattei Plan. The G7 Energy for Growth in Africa initiative," the Ambassador concluded, "is one of the many results we have achieved together."
