SAN SALVADOR, 18 MAR The Italian Ambassador to El Salvador, Paolo Emanuele Rozo Sordini, visited El Salvador's Minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez Vigil, as part of the technical-scientific mission conducted in the Central American country by Politecnico di Milano architecture and urban planning lecturers.
The Politecnico di Milano delegation arrived in El Salvador to develop a series of activities related to the international cooperation initiative "Strategic Plan for the Recovery and Revitalisation of the Historic Centres of San Miguel and San Salvador", financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and to be implemented through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS).
The initiative, dedicated to the strategic planning of the historic centres of San Salvador and San Miguel, began in January 2025 with the aim of contributing to the recovery and enhancement of the cultural identity, tourist attractiveness and social inclusion linked to the cultural heritage - tangible and intangible - of the two cities.
The meeting, held in the offices of Minister Valdez in the presence of the International Cooperation Agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of El Salvador, the Authority for the Planning of the Historic Centre of San Salvador (APLAN) and the AICS Regional Headquarters in San Salvador, was an important opportunity to present the main results expected from the initiative and to strengthen dialogue and collaboration with Salvadoran institutions.
Ambassador Rozo Sordini emphasised in particular the broad and ongoing nature of the cooperation between Italy and El Salvador, which extends to various sectors, including the enhancement of artistic and cultural heritage and urban development.
He also highlighted the fundamental role of the Italian experience in the recovery of historical centres, recognised as an added value for strengthening the Italian presence in the country and activating Italian investments in the Central American country.
Finally, the Ambassador reiterated the importance of conceiving cooperation as an exchange of experiences and an opportunity for mutual learning, emphasising the crucial role of Italian university excellence in supporting strategic planning for development.
Minister Valdez Vigil expressed her appreciation for Italy's support for the enhancement of the historical and cultural heritage, also in terms of tourism development, at a crucial time for the country's development.
She also thanked the Politecnico di Milano delegation for the valuable work of analysis and collection of information on the territory, carried out in collaboration with the relevant Salvadoran institutions, which had made it possible to draw an exhaustive picture of the current situation in terms of strategic planning in the tourism sector.
