The Italian Embassy in Mongolia announces the visit to Mongolia of the President of the Biennale di Venezia, Pietrangelo Buttafuoco, in Ulaanbaatar together with a delegation of the Biennale composed of the Director General, Dr.
Del Mercato, the Deputy Director General, responsible for the historical archive, Ms.
Rossi, the curator, Dr. Lonardelli and Prof. Pontorno.
The President was able to meet the Minister of Culture, Sport, Tourism and Youth of Mongolia, Mrs Nomin Chinbat, and the Khamba Lama of the Gandan Monastery.
During their talks with Minister Chinbat, the two parties shared mutual satisfaction for Mongolia's participation in the Venice Biennial and in general for the excellent cooperation in the cultural sphere between Italy and Mongolia, which will be further consolidated following President Buttafuoco's visit.
Minister Chinbat reiterated the Mongolian government's interest in promoting the country's creativity and artistic talent, enhancing local traditions in a global context. President Buttafuoco in turn emphasised the international and future-oriented projection of the Venice Biennale, mentioning the contemporary art project inspired by Marco Polo's travels.
The meeting with the Khamba Lama of the Gandan Monastery laid the foundations for a deepening of the theme of spirituality and art. The Khamba Lama recalled his recent trip to Italy (last January) and expressed his deep appreciation for this mission and the further opportunities offered by President Buttafuoco's visit.
The visit continued with a lectio magistralis by the President of the Venice Biennale at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Ulaanbaatar, organised by the Academy of Fine Arts, in collaboration with this Embassy, which was attended by a very large number of artists, students and institutions, and with a presentation of the Venice Biennale at the Mongolian Parliament (Grand Huraal).
The visit is part of the growing bilateral cultural relations between Italy and Mongolia and represents a further step in the consolidation of cooperation between the two countries in the artistic and cultural sphere.
