Under-fire Rome Mayor Ignazio Marino has been admitted to the city's Policlinico Gemelli hospital after feeling ill overnight, ANSA sources said Tuesday.
Marino, a member of Premier Matteo Renzi's centre-left Democratic Party (PD), has been under pressure to quit following a probe into allegations a mafia organization muscled in on city contracts, even though he is not personally implicated. Marino is having tests to ascertain the nature of the problem, although it is probably renal colic, the sources said, adding that he may leave hospital by the end of the day. The mayor was scheduled to take part in a session of a parliamentary committee on Tuesday on the reception and identification of migrants.
