The state forestry corps will
be dissolved and its members and resources transferred to the
carabinieri police or other forces or administrations with
effect from January 1, 2017, according to a government enabling
decree following up on last year's civil service reform, details
of which were released Thursday.
The move, combined with other changes aimed at
rationalising Italy's forces of law and order, will result in
savings of nearly 126 million euros between 2016 and 2018, a
technical report said.
Half of the money saved will be reinvested in the police
force, while the remaining 50% will be used "to improve public
finances".
