Moscow replied on Tuesday after
Premier Mario Draghi's described as "obscene" the claim Russian
Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made on Italy's Mediaset
television on Sunday that Adolf Hitler had Jewish roots.
Moscow has justified its invasion of Ukraine on the grounds that
its neighbour must be "denazified" and the Hitler comment was a
way to respond to the argument that Ukraine President Volodymyr
Zelensky cannot be a Nazi because he is Jewish.
Draghi has also criticised the Mediaset show Lavrov appeared on
in relation to the fact that his comments went unchallenged,
saying it was more like a speech given at a rally than an
interview.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said via
Telegram that the Italian journalists had wanted the interview
and that Lavrov had not asked for it.
