Premier Giorgia Meloni said Tuesday
that the Fascist racial laws targetting Italy's Jews were an
"indelible stain" on the nation's history.
"The racial laws of 1938 represent the lowest point in Italian
history, a shame that has marked our history forever," Meloni
said at the unveiling of the plaque at the offices of the Lazio
journalists guilt dedicated to the names and stories of Roman
journalists who were victims of Nazi/Fascist repression and
violence.
"I have said this many times times and I repeat it," added the
leader of the right-wing Brothers of Italy (FdI) party.
"It is an indelible stain, an infamy that happened amid the
silence of too many".
She stressed that the battle against discrimination and
anti-Semitism "has not been won".
"Anti-Semitism re-emerges with new faces and new and different
instruments," she said.
"The Italian government is always ready, focused and attentive
to fighting every for, of discrimination and anti-Semitism that
risks still being present among us".
