A total of 1.5 million euros in cash was seized from the homes of former European Parliament Vice President Eva Kaili and Italian former MEP Antonio Panzeri by Belgian police after they were arrested last week for alleged taking bribes to lobby for Qatar, Belgian media said on Tuesday Panzeri is among three Italians in custody in relation to the case along with Francesco Giorgi, the partner of Greek politician Kaili and an assistant to Italian MEP Andrea Cozzolino, and Niccolò Figà-Talamanca, the secretary general of the No Peace Without Justice NGO.
Another Italian probed in relation to the case, Luca Visentini,
the head of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC),
was released after being arrested, as was Kaili's father.
The seized money alleged includes cash that Kaili's father had
with him in a suitcase when he as leaving a Brussels hotel.
