Premier Giorgia Meloni said Tuesday
that her government would soon pass legislation to better defend
the 'Made in Italy' brand as she opened the Milan Furniture
Fair.
"This brand is the most valuable thing we have, provided that we
are able to defend it and enhance it," she said, adding that the
executive would preset a "framework law" on this issue "in the
coming weeks".
She said the legislation would be based on "three pillars: a
relentless fight against counterfeiting and unfair competition,
financial instruments to grow SMEs in sectors of (Italian)
excellence, and training and (the development of) skills".
Referring specifically to the Italian furniture industry, she
said the government wanted to make it self-sufficient when it
came to wood.
"We are working with the ministries to design a framework to
make the wood sector independent, combining environmental and
economic sustainability," she said.
"We want to aim for a 100% made in Italy wood-furniture supply
chain".
