European Parliament President Roberta
Metsola described Silvio Berlusconi as a "fighter" during a
commemoration for the Italian ex-premier, who died aged 86 on
Monday, during the parliament's plenary session in Strasbourg on
Tuesday.
"Silvio Berlusconi was a fighter who founded and led the centre
right in Italy, a political lead player for generations, and he
contributed to key passages in the history of Europe and Italy,"
Metsola said.
"Never too far from controversy, even in this house, but
everyone here remembers him for his generosity, his courage, his
charisma.
"History will discuss his impact, but the man made his mark".
Metsola was the first person to sign a book of condolences for
Berlusconi set up at the entrance to the chamber.
