Minister Eugenia Roccella said Thursday an amnesty for the
children of gay couples born up till now through foreign
surrogates might be useful, while outlawing the practice in the
future.
"We will have to think of a legal solution for the children born
so far", said Roccella referring to surrogacy during the taping
of leftwing journalist Peter Gomez's La Confessione show, to be
broadcast on channel Nine on Friday 23 June.
"We will have to think about a sort of amnesty," she explained,
"once there will be the new law for the prosecution of
surrogacy, even for those who do it abroad, since in Italy it is
already forbidden fortunately. I think it is useful to introduce
a legal solution that is not a way of circumventing the laws for
children born here".
The government has filed a bill making surrogacy a "universal
crime", while saying that it will not be retroactive.
