Ten militants of the extra-parliamentary far-right group CasaPound received 26-month prison sentences Tuesday for aggravated illegal occupation of a building in central Rome that they turned into their headquarters.
The case concerned the historic Rome headquarters of the neo-fascist group in Via Napoleone III and the movement's leaders Gianluca Iannone, and Davide and Simone Di Stefano were among those convicted.
CasaPound was also fined 20,000 euros and the case was sent to a civil court for further assessment of damages.
The court ordered the 'de-sequester' of the building.
CasaPound has occupied the building in Rome's Esquilino district since 2003.
In June 2020 the premises were the subject of a preventive seizure order and the rightist organisation was placed under investigation for criminal conspiracy aimed at instigating racial hatred and illegal occupation of state-owned property.
However, the order was not executed "for reasons of public order".
