The State Audit Court on Wednesday
called for an end to the use in Italy of amnesties for tax
debtors because they are unjust.

highlighted the "need to definitively abandon the use of
measures that offer, due to the difficulties of recovering
(unpaid) tax and due to budget needs, the facilitated settlement
of registered debt" on grounds that, "in addition to having a
negative impact in terms of equity and the individual
contribution to the financing of public services, they risk
leading to further inequities".
The various amnesties introduced between 2016 and 2018 "saw the
presentation of more than 4.1 million applications to a total of
53.8 billion euros in expected revenue, of which more than 33.6
billion was then not paid", said Flaccadoro during the parity
judgment on the 2022 state accounts.
