Premier Giorgia Meloni on Wednesday said the EU is committed to stamping out the migrant trafficking that leads to tragedies such as the recent shipwreck off the coast of Greece.
In a communication to parliament ahead of the European Summit in
Brussels on Thursday and Friday, Meloni said migration would be
a "central issue".
"On this point, I join the condolences for the recent tragedy
off the coast of Greece," the premier told lawmakers in the
Lower House, referring to the June 14 shipwreck that left 82
migrants and refugees confirmed dead and hundreds more missing.
Meloni also reaffirmed "the commitment in every forum to stamp
out the tragic trafficking of lives" that leads to such loss of
life at sea.
