A State funeral was held at Rome's Basilica dei Santi Pietro e Paolo church on Monday for ex-premier Arnaldo Forlani, who died last week at the age of 97.
Forlani led the Italian government between 1980 and 1981 and was
secretary of the once-dominant, now-defunct Christian Democracy
(DC) party from 1989 to 1992.
Italy is observing a day of national mourning for Forlani on
Monday with flags flown at half-mast on public buildings and on
Italian diplomatic and consular missions abroad.
President Sergio Mattarella and Lower House Speaker Lorenzo
Fontana were among the officials who attended the funeral.
