Deputy Premier and Transport Minister
Matteo Salvini says his rightwing League party's chemical
castration bill must be approved fast amid a surge in sexual
violence against women and children in Italy.
"If you rape a woman or a child you clearly have a problem," he
said.
"A jail term is not enough."
The centre left opposition Democratic Party said the measure was
not needed and that "re-education, starting in schools," was the
answer.
