Veneto Governor Luca Zaia said Friday
there were too many migrants in the northeastern region around
Venice, saying it had reached its limit.
"Migrants are an emergency, to say that 9,000 migrants represent
ordinary management is a no-no for me," he said.
He added: "Don't tell people that Veneto is not hospitable when
it is internationally recognised for its integration model".
Local officials across Italy have been warning that their
migrant reception facilities are buckling under a constant flow,
mainly from North Africa but also through the Balkans.
