On migration crisis management a
"better solution" is needed at European Union (EU) level
involving "clear rules at external borders so as to avoid images
like those of Lampedusa", Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard
Karner said on Thursday.
"We have seen the images of Lampedusa and how great the
migratory pressure on Europe is," said Karner, arriving at the
EU Home Affairs Council in Brussels.
"We have to work hard and intensely" on the EU Pact on Migration
and Asylum, "take further steps and bring it to life," he
continued.
"This is what we are fighting with today," said Karner, calling
for measures to "make the EU's external borders more secure".
