Premier Giorgia Meloni visited the Great Synagogue of Rome on Tuesday.
The visit is of symbolic importance after Hamas's attack on Israel at the weekend.
On Monday Meloni reiterated the government's solidarity with the people of Israel and the Italian Jewish community in light of the "horrible and barbaric events that are taking place in Israel.
"Today more than ever, after the horrible and barbaric events that are taking place in Israel, the government expresses its closeness and solidarity with the people of Israel and the Italian Jewish communities," said Meloni in a statement on the 41st anniversary of the terrorist attack on the Great Synagogue in Rome in which one person, two-year-old Stefano Gaj Taché, was killed and 37 were injured.
"Terror will never prevail," added Meloni.
Meloni participated in a telephone meeting later on Monday with United States President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to discus "the serious crisis following Saturday's barbaric attack perpetrated by Hamas against the State of Israel.
"The five Heads of State and Government expressed firm support for Israel and unequivocal condemnation of the horrendous criminal acts by Hamas which have caused a terrible number of innocent victims, including women, children and elderly people," a statement said.
"They then discussed the most urgent political initiatives to be taken together. Protecting the lives of the hostages, starting with the children, some of whom are very young, is a top priority and diplomatic efforts will be focused on this.
"Reaffirming Israel's right to defend itself, President Meloni indicated the need to work to avoid a spread of the crisis at regional level and to protect the civilian population involved.
"The five Heads of State and Government agreed to remain in close contact as the crisis continues".
