Defence Minister Guido Crosetto said
Saturday that the time has come to start trying to find a
political solution to end the war sparked by Russia's invasion
of Ukraine.
"The war has been going on for almost two years now and I think
that, alongside and in parallel with military engagement and
support for Ukraine, it is important to take paths that lead to
a political solution," Crosetto said as he visited Italian
troops stationed in Malbork, Poland.
"What cannot be achieved militarily - and up to now we have
achieved the preservation of Ukraine, which could have been
wiped out, and the consolidation of a border that blocked the
Russian attack - can be achieved by opening a diplomatic and
political front to try to achieve the same result through peace
talks.
"What existed before the war must be restored, and what could
not be done with weapons must be done in another way".
