Premier Giorgia Meloni said Italy has
been a lead player at the EU level under her, especially on
shaping the bloc's approach to the issue of migrants, in an
interview published in Monday's edition of Japanese daily
Yomiuri Shimbun.
"The government has played a key role in Brussels in recent
months, making Italy's voice heard authoritatively and
contributing to the debate on the major issues," said Meloni,
who is on an official visit to Japan and is having a bilateral
meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Monday.
She hailed the "cultural turning point" with which the other
states and EU institutions have "progressively" come to agree
with the Italian position on the management of the migration,
favouring a focus on the "external dimension as a way to limit
departures".
