Italy must boost Italian language
teaching for foreigners amid concerns over flagging
assimilation, Education Undersecretary Paola Frassinetti said
Friday.
Frassinetti, a member of Premier Giorgia Meloni's rightwing
Brothers of Italy (FdI) party, said she agreed with Education
and Merit Minister Giuseppe Valditara after he stressed the
importance of integrating foreign students and called for
majority-Italian classes echoing anti-migrant League leader
Matteo Salvini's call for a 20% cap on foreign pupils in
classes.
"Valditara is right when he says that the future of our national
community depends on the true integration of foreign students,"
said Frassinetti.
We want a school that is open to all and at the same time
cherishes its identity, and to do this it is necessary to
strengthen the teaching of the Italian language with specific
courses for foreign students, which is essential to ensure true
inclusion".
