Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister
Antonio Tajani announced at the Ukraine Recovery Conference
(URC) in Berlin on Tuesday that Italy is preparing a new package
of military aid for Kyiv featuring the Samp-T air-defence
system.
The French-Italian system that can track dozens of ballistic
missiles and intercept many at the same time.
Italy and France gave one Samp-T to Ukraine last year as part of
efforts to help Kyiv defend itself from Moscow after Russia
launched a war of aggression on its neighbour in 2022.
"First of all, I agree with Dmytro Kuleba when he says that the
first strategy for the reconstruction of Ukraine is to protect
the infrastructure and buildings with air defence," Tajani said
at the conference, addressing his Ukrainian counterpart. "That
is why I want to inform you that Italy is ready to send a new
military package with the Samp-T for the air defence of
Ukraine".
Tajani also announced a new 140-million-euro package for
Ukraine's "infrastructure, railways, health, agriculture and
mine clearance.
"There is also 45 million for the reconstruction of Odessa," he
added.
"Today we will sign a memorandum for cooperation in this area".
