Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni and
United States President Joe Biden reaffirmed their commitment to
seeking an agreement to end the war in Gaza during a bilateral
meeting on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Puglia on Friday,
the premier's office said.
The meeting "made it possible to reiterate the common commitment
to an overall agreement regarding the conflict in Gaza for the
end of hostilities, the release of the hostages and the
strengthening of humanitarian support for the civilian
population," the premier's office said in a statement.
"The importance of restarting the peace process with the aim of
a two-State solution was also underlined".
The White House, meanwhile, said the two leaders "highlighted
the urgent need to secure a hostage deal and a ceasefire in
Gaza, and emphasized the importance of Hamas taking a
constructive approach to that process".
